Ellis 1801 on Steroids

The transmission line design takes the bass extension in this model down to 34Hz for added bass impact.

More Flexible Placement

The transmission cabinet provides more flexible placement options than a standard ported design. Can be located closer to room boundaries without causing issues.

High SAF Appeal

At 42" tall, 9" wide and only 10 1/2" deep, the cabinet design is easy to place in just about any room.

The Story

Great Pedigree

You may have noticed that all Veracity models feature ribbon tweeters. So the 1801's would not normally qualify for inclusion in a list of Veracity speakers. But when we completed work on the HT1-TL, we realized that the woofer is the same as used in the 1801's and the basic design would work perfectly in the same TL cabinet.

The original 1801b design was developed by Dave Ellis with crossover development by Dennis Murphy. So we ran the idea by Dave of offering a TL version of his legendary design. Dave's answer was, "go for it!"

This design features the incomparable Hiquphon OW1 soft dome tweeter, a Seas Excel W18, a transmission line cabinet and, of course, an updated Dennis Murphy crossover design. It all comes together in a speaker with seamless integration from the extremely luscious top end to bass response down to 34Hz.

The Ellis 1801-TL's frequency response is 34Hz to 20,000Hz +/- 3dB and is essentially ruler-flat from 45Hz to 20,000Hz. It delivers a very detailed top end, extremely accurate midrange capable of resolving minute details in the source recording and, at the same time, delivers deep, musical bass. What's more, it's imaging capabilities are difficult to put into words.

Frequency Response

Extreme Accuracy

Flat Response

As you can see in this frequency response plot, the Ellis 1801-TL design is extremely accurate with ruler flat response. You will hear the music EXACTLY as it was produced.

Phase Coherent

In addition to flat frequency response, the Ellis 1801-TL design is phase coherent in the crossover regions resulting in a speaker that images exceptionally well.
