Stunning Realism in a 2-way TM high-definition
transmission line reference speaker

Ellis 1801-TL features

the drivers

The 1801-TL's features two world class drivers in an TM configuration. The Hiquphon OW1 soft dome tweeter provides a gorgeous top end. This 3/4" dome is capable of greater top end detail than most 1" dome tweeters and is considered by many as one of the very finest dome tweeters being make today.

The Seas Excel W18 midwoofer is a magnesium-coned driver with a very low cone mass. This results in a fast driver that is very detailed and extremely accurate. The midrange performance of this driver is legendary.

the crossover

Due to become another Dennis Murphy classic, the newly-revised 1801-TL crossovers provide seamless integration between these world-class drivers.

the cabinets

Technically described as a quarter wave tube design, the transmission line cabinets designed by Paul Kittinger are based on the pioneering work of Martin King. The cabinets take advantage of quarter wave tuning and allow the W18's to play to a F3 of 34 Hz - incredible extension for a 7" driver!

When we designed the cabinets, we knew we wanted something special. So rather than use the standard 3/4" MDF, we used 1" MDF instead. The extra mass in the cabinet walls, combined with three internal braces, makes for a very inert and solid cabinet with greatly reduced cabinet resonance.

the sound

To paraphrase an old saying, "for those who have heard them, no explanation is necessary...for those who have not, none is possible."

The top end is lush and detailed. The midrange is also very detailed and accurate. The bass is musical and impactful. The bass extension is greater than one would expect from 7" drivers. The integration is seamless. Imaging is pinpoint. The soundstage is deep and wide. What more can we say?
