So we contacted Paul Kittinger and asked him to work up a transmission line cabinet design for this new, smaller SongSeries floor-stander.At about that same time, Dennis Murphy began working with the Seas ER15 and reported that while it was very similar to the CA15 we had used in the SongTowers, the FR plots with this new driver were even flatter.Armed with a new Paul Kittinger cabinet design, a new midwoofer and a new Dennis Murphy crossover, we went to work. We were expecting great sound, but everybody who heard the initial prototypes were very impressed. The mids and top end were nearly identical to the SongTowers and the bass was more extended than any of us would have imagined.Note that the SongBird’s cannot handle quite the SPL levels as the SongTowers. When tuned as low as the SongBird’s, the single 5” woofer must move a lot of air. Which means it reaches its output limit earlier. If you like to listen to music at higher volume levels, even occasionally, the SongTowers would be a better choice.applicationsThe SongBird's are a perfect speaker for a 2-channel music system in a small room. Their footprint, at 10" x 10", is smaller than most stand-mounted speakers.The SongBird's are equally well-suited for home theater use.
