the HT1 crossover
the function
The are three basic functions provided by a crossover.
- First, it divides the signal so that each driver is provided
with the frequencies optimized for its prime operating range.
- Second, it adjusts the volume levels and response curves of
the drivers to provide a smooth, accurate transition between them.
- Finally, it can also include circuitry to deal with specific
driver shortcomings (no driver is perfect).
the importance
The crossover is the least talked about and most important
component in a speaker system.
Manufacturers often tout the latest "kevlar" or "titanium"
drivers. But while driver quality is important, it is the crossover that
determines the final performance characteristics of a speaker. It is not
possible to build a great speaker without a great crossover.
the design
Designing a great crossover is more an art than a science. Years
of experience and a great pair of ears are prerequisites.
The proprietary HT1 crossover design is the work of
near-legendary crossover artist Dennis Murphy. A consummate professional,
Dennis has earned a reputation for creating ultra smooth and refined crossovers
that allow multiple drivers to perform as if they were a single driver.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Dennis
for his dedication to this project and for the truly remarkable fruits of his
labor. Without Dennis, the HT1's would not be the world-class performers we
enjoy today.
a final note
Only the highest quality crossover components are used in the
Veracity HT1's. Yes, they are expensive. But it makes no sense to compromise
the capability of this exceptional crossover design. Rest assured, with quality
crossover components, our crossovers provide the utmost in transparency.
