The Story
Larry Cross contacted me about a pair of unique HT3's.
At the time, I had just purchased some of the most gorgeous burled walnut
veneer I had ever seen.
I must have been excited about it. Because it didn't
take long for Larry to become excited about it too.
As you can see, the veneer had a wide range of brown
tones and some rather stunning burls.
In fact, this made for some very interesting corners. As you can
see in the photo of a rear corner on the left, the patterns matched up almost
perfectly, creating an impression that this pair was carved out a of a solid
block of wood.
A horror story
As HT3 owner's will attest, I do a fiarly robust packing
job to prevent any chance of shipping damage. Until this pair, I have never had
a problem shipping HT3's.
But my luck ran out. The bottom left corner of one
cabinet was ripped apart. It must have taken quite a jolt since the harwood
trim was completely fractured.
It will be a very interesting repair job. But I am
confident that when we finish, the damaged part will be stronger than the
original corner and the repair will be invisible. While Larry was obviously
upset, I think this story will have a very happy ending. These speakers are
just too beautiful not to save.
What's next?Do oak and walnut go together? Saty
tuned...
