Veracity of the
month...
every so often this page will highlight a
truly unique "Special Edition" Veracity project...
November # 2
Tim Tran emailed a photo of some speakers he thought
looked very attractive. They were painted a cordovan-like color, only not quite
as brown. He asked if I could duplicate the color.
The Story
Being located close to the automotive capital of the
world, obtaining automotive paint in any color of the rainbow is not a problem.
However, as was the case with the previous Veracity of the Month, I suggested
perhaps using a highly figured veneer and dying it the desired color.
I found some highly figured maple that would work well
for the project. But what about the dye? It was not a standard color by any
means.
So I spent an afternoon mixing various combinations of
red, blue and brown until I came close the the desired color in the photograph.
I sent some samples to Tim.
When he recieved them, he thought perhaps a touch more
red would be in order. So I mixed additional red into the mix and we were
set.
Additional requests
Tim wanted to see the entire front panel and also wanted
grills for the upper cabinet section as well (the woofer grill is standard on
this model). So no additional front baffle was used for this pair.
The finish Tim requested was high-gloss piano lacquer.
So the speakers were rubbed out to a high gloss finish.
Tim also wanted to have pictures of the build process.
So we took photos at various stages of the process (all but the final steps
actually). If you would like to see these speakers from start to (almost)
finish, click here.
What's next?
A small pair of Veracity HT1's.
