HT3

October # 2

The Story

ht3Well, I promised something "bright" and here it is. Dan Guevara lives in Colorado but is working in Idaho for an extended period. Despite the fact that he doesn't have much time to listen these days, he deiced he wanted a pair of HT3's so he could really enjoy what little time he has when home.

Dan wanted something to match the wood decor in his home. He asked about movingui. I always wanted to work with what is also called African Satinwood, but never had the chance. While you may not be able to tell from the photos, it is quite a bright yellow color, but very striking in terms of figuring.

A while earlier I had purchased a piece of Mexican Primavera for another project, but it didn't quite work out. When the satinwood veneer came in, I immediately recalled the Primavera and pulled it out. Perfect!

This was a fun project. Not only were the woods and veneers fun to work with, but Dan's response was very positive as well. Here is an email I received about a month after he picked them up at the Rock Mountain Audiofest:

Jim,

I was home in Colorado for a week during the Thanksgiving week and finally was able to spend some time listening to the HT-3/Van Alstine combo at great length. (I don't know if you received the email I sent about 4 weeks ago after RMAC where I mentioned I was able to listen for only about 4 to 5 hours then have to leave town.)

Last week, I listened to late Newell Oler's CD superb piano performance & recording (Back Roads, All The Day Long, and a few more). The HT-3 performance is unbelievable.

My wife is not much a fan of reproduced music (she likes going to live concerts instead), but when I left Denver a few days ago she wanted me to show her how to turn the system on and off, kinda surprise to me.

I had the system set up in my loft with logs all around, wood floor, wood ceiling, not an ideal listening room. But, it doesn't matter. The HT-3 plays music and really sings! I'm very happy. (The B&W 801F's are now retired as far as I'm concerned).

Thanks to you and Mary,
- Dan Guevara

Thanks. I sure hope your future includes many long sessions at home with your HT3's.

Happy listening Dan!

What's next?
