Veracity of the

every so often this page will highlight a
truly unique "Special Edition" Veracity project...
October # 2
I promised a look at my personal HT3/HT3a's and here
they are. I actually built these a few months ago but didn't post photos. The
reason is simple: when I post photos, someone inevitably wants the speakers and
they are sold, leaving me without until I can build another pair. I simply
couldn't risk having this happen until after the audiofests I recently
attended.
The Story
I purchased a nice piece of expensive madrone burl about
a year ago and waited for just the right project to use it. The problem is, I
was never asked to produce a speaker using this attractive wood. So I decided
to do a pair of HT3's for myself.
I also happened to have some nice figured African cherry
that was a little lighter than normal. The color seemed to match the lighter
color in the madrone burl quite well. So I thought I've give it a go.
The veneer was too narrow to cover the side panel of the
HT3. A splice was required. But when splicing in a book-matched fashion, the
result was a nice herringbone pattern.
Active/Passive
Since I wanted to use these speakers with DEQX active
crossovers, I needed to set them up accordingly. But I also needed demo
speakers with passive crossovers. So I set up this pair to accommodate both.
It actually worked out quite well as I was able to
switch back and forth rather easily between active and passive crossovers while
at the Rocky Mountain and Chicago Audiofests.
I suppose I better start thinking about my next pair of
HT3's. After all, now that I have posted pictures, it probably won't be long
before I have to say good-bye to these.
What's next?
Experiments in analine dye.
