The Story
Stephen Wilburn really wanted
macassar ebony HT3's. But not just any macassar ebony.
He wanted interesting grain patterns, but not too wild.
So we liiked at quite a few batches. Some were very striking, but a bit too
much for Stephen's taste. We then came across this batch.
Once we had nailed down the veneer, it was time to turn
out attention to the front baffles.
I had just purchased a large board of some very nice
claro walnut. It seemed perfect for the task.
Macassar ebony is one of the richest looking woods
around. I think it is very classy looking, but it tends to be expensive and the
logs are not very wide. In this case, four sequenced pieces of veneer needed to
be spliced for each of the side panels. But the resulting mirror-image matches
made for some very interesting patterns.
I think the combination of ebony and claro walnut makes
for some very classy looking HT3's. If you like dard woods, this combaintion is
very hard to beat!
Happy listening Stephen!
What's next?
High gloss cherry with outboard crossover enclosures.
Stay tuned...
