Sometimes it is like giving birth...
I got a call just over a year ago from Dan Gordon. He
was evaluating speakers and wanted to know if he could include a pair of HT1's
in his audition. He was interested in comparing them to a pair of speakers from
Red Rose Music and a pair from Arum Cantus. Both used the G2 ribbon.
The Test
Dan's neighbor, a multi-grammy award-winning jazz
pianist, helped in the evaluation. After a short listening session, the jazz
artist indicated it was no contest. The problem was, Dan's wife and interior
decorator both felt the HT1's were too large for their application. Further
complicating matters was the fact that there wasn't quite enough breathing room
for a rear-ported design.
So, to address both issues, I suggested building a
sealed version of the HT1.
Too many choices
The only remaining issue was the veneer to be used.
Again, both Dan's wife and interior decorator were
involved in the finishing decisions. After quite a few samples and careful
consideration of all the options, the decision was made to go with Hawaiian
koa. Dan also requested a high-gloss piano lacquer finish with matching speaker
stands.
Well, after almost a year, the project was finally
complete. How does Dan like the results?
Well, I have to say that my wife and I are thrilled
with the speakers and stands - they look incredible as well as sound great. My
wife's first response was "wow, they are beautiful." A huge thank you for all
your hard work on them and for putting up with our indecision during the
process!!! We very much appreciate your help and the beautiful end
result.
- Dan
What's next?
I promised a look at some HT3's in leopardwood. And I
always try to keep my word.

what's next?
We are close to finishing up some unique pairs of HT3's.
One of them is a pair of HT3's in a veneer I have wanted to use for some time -
leopardwood.
Stay tuned...
