The Story
These days, it isn't often we choose HT1's for the VOTM.
But this case was an interesting story.
Klaus Althoff called to order a pair of demo HT1's I had
listed as "available for sale." They were one of the first pairs of HT1's we
had built. But when I looked them over carefully, I just didn't feel good about
selling them. They had a few dings and dents and I just didn't think they were
something we should be shipping out.
Klaus had always wanted a pair of nice bubinga monitor
speakers and the demo pair was priced to fit his budget. I offered to build him
a new pair. The trouble was, his budget simply did not allow for it. So I told
him I would produce a pair of HT1's in bubinga for him using a veneered front
in place of the normal solid wood front baffle.
It turned out to be a good compromise. Klaus got his
bubinga speakers at a price that fit his budget. And I think they turned out
quite nice.
