The Story
This is a long, but I think interesting, story. Some
people are introduced to our speakers in unusual ways.
Frank
Van Alstine (Audio by Van Alstine) was conducting a search for a new speaker
system that would really do a good job of demonstrating the prowess of his
amplifiers. I told him that the HT3's were just what he was looking for. He
said he would love to demo them, so I sent him a pair (which he ended up
keeping).
You can read about Frank's speaker quest
here (you won't come across his impressions of the HT3's
until about page 30 of this rather long 40+ page thread).
When the demo HT3's arrived, Frank did not have help to
set them up. But a few days later, a gentleman named Robert Werner was coming
to audition Frank's amps. So Frank asked him to help unpack and set up the
HT3's.
As the story was relayed to me, after listening to just
a few cuts, Robert told Frank he would not be purchasing an amplifier that day.
He wanted to order a pair of HT3's instead (which he obviously did).
Robert thought perhaps he wanted cherry veneer. It just
so happened that I had purchased a large batch of some of the nicest ropey
cherry I had ever come across. And I had also just finished a pair of small
Jordan single driver monitors using ropey cherry with maple trim. I really
liked how these turned out, so I sent Robert a picture. He liked the
combination as well.
So I purchased some nice bird's eye maple solid wood and
went to work. I really liked the way these turned out. The photos simply do not
do them justice. These would be right at home in my living room. Hmmmm...
Happy listening Robert!
What's next?
The re-make of a classic. Stay tuned...
