V3's

March # 2

The Story

Pete had purchased a pair of HT3's (December, 2006 - # 2 ) about a month before he lead a home theater/music get-together at his home. He invited us to attend and suggested we bring along a pair of our new V3's to the event..

When the event was over, it was late and we didn't really feel like packing up the V3's. So I suggested that Pete set them up in his home theater and play with them for a while. I was interested in his opinions.

A few days later, Pete called and was slightly upset with me. He was glad I left the V3's behind, but slightly irked that it was going to cost him more money. It turns out the V3's were far more detailed and revealing than his current home theater speakers.

So we talked about how his new pair would be finished. Since they were for home theater use, he wanted them to be flat black to cut down on reflections. But he also wanted a nice veneer. What to do?

The solution was to do both. The flat black cabinets would have rosewood front baffles. I think they turned out quite nice.

But that brought up another question... What were we planning to do for a matching center channel?

We talked quite a bit about what kind of center channel we wanted and decided that a large 3-way center to match the V3's would be in order. As we worked on the design, we realized that it would be very large indeed - almost as large as the V3's themselves. WE may call this new model we are developing for Pete the "Monster V3 Center." Stay tuned...

What's next?
