The Story

Mike Bradley had a few requests.

First, he had just installed new oak flooring and wanted to match it (he sent me a sample). Next, he wanted solid wood front baffles, but wanted them full-length. Normally this would be an expensive option I would try to discourage. But he wanted straight walnut and I had a friend who had a few boards available. Finally, Mike wanted full-length grills.

grillsThe full-length baffles were not that much of an issue. But I usually mount grills with magnets mounted just under the veneer. Since there was no veneer on the front baffle of these speakers, I had to drill in from behind, trying to get the magnets as close to the surface as possible without drilling through the walnut baffles. It was a challenge, but we managed to mount six of them per side without incident.

Matching the flooring was a bit of a challenge. Nature creates wood and is rarely very consistent. It took some time to find some red oak veneer that was a good match for the flooring. But I think we got very close.

What's next?

More bubinga, more walnut and some very nice CAOW1's. Stay tuned...
